(-)-Flavomannin A is a fungal anthranoid pigment with antiproliferative activity and relevance as an antiplasmodial-related scaffold.
Details
Flavomannin A is a preanthraquinone anthranoid pigment isolated from Cortinarius and related fungal species. Structurally related flavomannins have demonstrated moderate antiplasmodial activity against Plasmodium falciparum and antiproliferative effects in human cancer cell lines. In colorectal Caco-2 cells, flavomannin derivatives induce G0/G1 cell-cycle arrest accompanied by upregulation of p27 without triggering apoptosis. As an anthranoid scaffold linked to both cytostatic and antimalarial activities, flavomannin A serves as a valuable natural product framework for structure-activity relationship studies.
