Details
Boromycin is a boron-containing polyether macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces antibioticus. It exhibits potent nanomolar activity against multiple apicomplexan parasites including Plasmodium falciparum, Toxoplasma gondii, and Cryptosporidium parvum, with rapid killing of asexual and sexual blood stages of malaria parasites. Boromycin also shows antiviral activity against HIV-1 and displays ionophore-like effects on membrane function. Its broad antiparasitic profile and rapid onset of action make it a promising candidate for antiparasitic drug development.
